Design Studies: A New Track in the RIT’s Graduate Visual Communication Design Program
Extending the innovative educational programming of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies, the new two-year scholarly Design Studies option will complement the existing tracks in the Visual Communication Design (VCD) Program.
Beginning in 2018, the Design Studies curriculum will focus on critical relationships across the disciplines of design history, theory, and criticism. Working from original source archival materials from RIT’s unique resources (Vignelli Archive, Cary Graphic Design Archive, Cary Graphic Arts Collection), students will explore and apply content for interpretive deliverables (print, exhibit, and digital), using formal visual language and concept-rich strategies. Graduates of the program will be prepared for professional careers in education, business, cultural organizations and other institutions that value excellence in design.
