Pastor Jared Stahler of St. Peter’s Church in New York spoke at the Vignelli Center’s Design Conversation lecture series on April 14, 2015. His topic was “Life at the Intersection: Church Meets Vignelli.”
In 1977 Lella and Massimo Vignelli designed a totally new St. Peter’s Church in New York adjacent to the CitiCorp Center. In addition to its liturgical function, the facility is a community center and is known as “the Jazz Church” because of all the public concerts that are held there.
Pastor Stahler spoke about the relationship between the church and the Vignellis as well as the background of this team effort. On display was a pew from the church which has been donated to the Vignelli Center’s archive. Display panels from a St. Peter’s exhibit about the history of this design collaboration complemented Pastor Stahler’s talk.
