to the Czech Republic

In July 2016, R. Roger Remington, the Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design, conducted a graphic design workshop as part of the ArtCamp 2016, which was conducted at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, University of West Bohemia, Pilsen, Czech Republic.

The workshop project was centered on designing posters about the famous Czech designer Ladislav Sutnar and the graphics he accomplished while in the United States between 1939 and 1976. Remington is endeared by the Czech design community as he included a chapter about Sutnar in his book Nine Pioneers in American Graphic Design which was published in 1989. A highly accomplished designer in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s, Sutnar moved to the United States in 1939 and remained in New York City for the rest of his career. The versatile Modernist designer made significant contributions to information design, many of which were chronicled in his book, Visual Design in Action, which summarized his major accomplishments.

In 2015,the University of West Bohemia awarded Remington the Ladislav Sutnar Prize which honors outstanding international designers, educators, artists and institutions for contributions to the world of design and art.
